Jeannie Wrecked, Bannon Arrested!
Jeannie 71 was wrecked during Mermaid Week some years ago.
Where, when and how?
What other boat was damaged at the same time?
A key component of Jeannie (not foils or spars) was built into another boat. Name the item and the boat.

I think the year was 1996 she broke her mooring and came up under the quay the other boat was 186 My Di. I knew it was the year Wexford flooded

Claire, the other boat was 186 MyDi, damaged at her first championship but in 1997, not 1996. Roger Bannon had to swap into 76 Helen and nearly got arrested while ‘collecting’ Helen from John Davies garage, but that’s another story.

It was Endeavour we went back to Dublin to collect from John Davies to whom she had been lent. I was arrested by the local Gardai when trying to remove her from John’s garage.
Eventually all was explained and we got back to Wexford at 1.30am in the morning to be greeted by a huge crowd who helped to rig the boat. The following morning many of the leading lights in the class refused to go on the water, delaying racing until Endeavour was ready to be launched. Endeavour went on to finish 2nd beaten by the smallest possible margin by Zuleika when Derek managed to pass 7 boats on the last leg of the last race to beat us by a 1/4 point after we had won the last race by 6 minutes.
There was a memorable last night which culminated in Jim Dempsey, Derek Joyce and myself drinking a bottle of Black Bush as the dawn broke after demolishing many bottles of champagne which had been given by me to all that had helped to save MYDi that awful night when she ended up on the rocks in front of the Talbot Hotel. I well recall that Jim Dempsey nearly broke his leg trying to protect the boat and it was Peter Scallen skill in a powerful rib which eventually saved the day and avoided a total loss.
